It’s not unknown for this powerful hypnotic state to be used to help with medical procedures. You won’t find out ways you can induce that depth through Underground Hypnosis, but that kind of depth is rarely called for. To all intents and purposes, the lower levels are all you need.

Through spending a short time studying and some hours rehearsing your skills, you’ll quickly develop into quite an accomplished hypnotist - skilled enough for the typical pastimes. Forgiveness: Cleaning Out the Filing Cabinet

No matter who you are or how long you have been a Christian, you will still have times when you get hurt and offended. As a Christian, the goal is to learn how to deal with hurts properly. Learning to respond instead of reacting is the key. If you have been hurt in the same way before, then it will be easier to take on the offense and react. The reaction will be based on a combination of the present hurt and the past hurts as well. If you have learned to forgive when hurtful things happen instead of being offended, you will be able to respond correctly. Forgiveness therefore, must become a way of life in order to be able to respond in a Christ-like manner no matter what the situation is.

The problem is that your soul has a filing cabinet where past hurts and offenses are stored that have not been dealt with properly. This is why when someone does something that hurts you; you will suddenly remember how many times they have done the same thing before.

The only way to be free from past hurts is to forgive. Ask the Lord to help you forgive. Forgiveness is releasing the person who hurt you, and releasing your right to hold the offense against them any longer. Forgiveness is not saying that what they did was not wrong; forgiveness is releasing them to God. You will not be free from the pain caused by the offense until you release the offender. Once you forgive them, your filing cabinet will be cleaned out and you can begin to deal with hurts on a daily basis instead of letting things pile up.

“Forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Eph 4:32

Forgiveness is releasing our right to demand payment for sins against us by surrendering to God and letting Him be the judge and jury.

When someone has sinned against us and we are hurt, the automatic response is to be offended. If we allow ourselves to be offended, then we build a prison and hold the person in this prison until they pay what they owe. This is unforgiveness. If we stay offended, we will turn next and betray the one who offended us. In Mathew 24:10-12, Jesus warns us of the progression of being offended:

- Offended
- Betrayal
- Hatred
- False prophet (speaking against the person who hurt you)
- Love toward the person waxes cold

Forgive each other as God has forgiven you. (Eph. 4:32)

We must forgive 70 x 7meaning forgive again, and again, and again….

The moment we feel frustration or anger, we need to confess it immediately so it does not get lodged in our hearts.

Sometimes, people think they have forgiven; and they may have even prayed a prayer of forgiveness, but it still did not happen in their heart. We often do not really know if we have truly forgiven because the resentment has been buried for a long time.

Resentments get buried in the heart several ways:

- when we are small children and do not know how to forgive

- when we do not recognize our anger (we learn to turn off emotions and just cope)

- when we refuse to forgive

To discover buried resentments in your own heart:

- Start by asking the Lord to help you remember a time you were hurt and instead of dealing with it, you stuffed it.
-When you think of that person or persons, does your heart leap up in love toward them?
-Do you want fellowship with them?
-Do you rehearse speeches you want to say to them if you have the opportunity?
-Do you want to get even?

Are you still angry?
The Bible says to be angry and sin not. Anger is usually suppressed. To forgive someone, you must let the anger come to the surface and live long enough to feel it (this is how you own it). If you have been hurt but fail to own the anger, you have only forgiven on the surface. The anger keeps the pain buried, and therefore forgiveness is not completed.

- You do not necessarily need to feel like forgiving.

- We choose to forgive out of obedience to the Lord.

- We ask the Lord for His power to enable us to forgive.

Do You Know in Advance; What You Seem to Innately Know by Chance?

Have you ever learned something new and then within hours or days find that, that information was exactly the information you needed. Do you ever wonder how you come across such information on such timely basis? Some people call this the holistic universe; perhaps that is a good term. As we learn more about quantum computing it would make sense that the mind may in fact work through time, space and dimension.

Currently if you talk about such things, some may say; you’re nuts! And maybe you are, maybe we all are, however either way I know that I am not alone in such circumstances. Indeed, if you were still reading this, then this is also something that happens to you. Scientists cannot explain why this works or how it works; some say it is a matter of false memory, and that even if you didn’t have the information, you would still have the potential eventuality of the circumstance or events. This is a good point, however in my estimation it does not account for the rapid and often occurrence that such events take place.

So, while science is busy trying to disprove something we all know and feel; wouldn’t it make sense or should I say would make more sense to prove how it works, why it works and work on duplicating it. It seems that taking that tact would serve mankind better and help us to better understand how our brain works beyond the confines of the human skull. I hope you will consider this in 2006.

Communication in Today’s World Is As Easy As 1-2-3

Initially, effective communication is made up of three characteristics: being friendly, precise, and honest. But if it was really that easy, we wouldn’t have the thousands of books, CD’s and courses on the subject, would we?

I’ve always been a talker; it was just my nature early on to be outgoing…my Mother always said, “Keith, you have the gift of gab.” Well, that may be so, but just because I loved to talk, doesn’t mean I did it well. I’ve had to learn, just like everyone else, how to be an effective communicator.

(1) Besides those initial three characteristics, an additional attribute, which establishes a foundation for good communication in business and personal relationships, is self-esteem.

Yup, self-esteem. If you like yourself, you aren’t busy wondering if: you are coming across like a nerd (not a bad thing these days), whether or not your attire is appropriate, whether you have offended this person in the past, if you have your facts straight, or IF a whole host of other things are wrong with you, which probably aren’t.

(2) Effective communication also is based in self-confidence. Confidence comes from a string of successes, which have accumulated, enabling you feel in control and together. Some people look like they were born confident, while the rest of us have to work at it. We have more confidence at certain times and not so much at others, that’s a fact of life. You might have a lot of confidence speaking before a group of salesmen and feel like the proverbial fish out of water in front of a bunch of teenagers.

Communication also comes in a lot of subliminal forms: body language, eye contact, gestures. But, if you concentrated on all of these things you’d never utter a word. Although they are important and will become natural with time and practice, be aware of them, but don’t focus on them.

Have you ever watched a couple of good friends talk? They are very animated, often happy, energized, facing each other, and otherwise, fully engaged in they’re conversation. To communicate effectively, be fully in the moment, listen well and enjoy yourself.

(3) Communication is also about positive, personal energy. When you are energetic you appear more confident and in control. People admire energy and the communication that comes with it. They want to talk to you when you have a positive attitude because it brings energy to the conversation, and they feel better about themselves while conversing with you.

Being a friendly, precise, honest, person with good self-esteem and self-confidence, and a positive attitude in a conversation with your spouse, the guy next door or your boss will change your life. The beauty of this formula is the more you do it, the better you get at it. Remember the old adage, “Practice makes perfect.” It’s true; give it a try.

The Difference Between Study Skills, Study Techniques and Study Methods

When one considers learning and study, one should always keep in mind that there are three aspects that are of importance:

STUDY SKILLS:

The ability of any learner to study successfully depends to a great extent on his fundamental study skills, i.e. his ability to concentrate, to perceive correctly and accurately, as well as the ability to remember what has been perceived.

Study skills should not be confused with study techniques and study methods. The difference between these can be explained by using the game of soccer as example. In order to be a soccer player, a person FIRST has to master the fundamental soccer skills, e.g. passing, heading, and dribbling the ball. Only after that can he be taught techniques and methods. In the same way, in order to be a good student, a learner FIRST has to master the fundamental study skills.

Mnemonics training is often done without keeping this sequential fashion of learning in mind. A mnemonic is a specific reconstruction of target content intended to tie new information more closely to the learner’s existing knowledge base and, therefore, facilitate retrieval. There are a variety of mnemonic techniques, including keywords, pegwords, acronyms, loci methods, spelling mnemonics, phonetic mnemonics, number-sound mnemonics, and Japanese “Yodai” methods. An example of an acronym is to remember the word HOMES to recall the names of the Great Lakes: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior. The purpose of number-sound mnemonics is to recall strings of numbers, such as telephone numbers, addresses, locker combinations or historical dates. To use them, learners must first learn the number-sound relationships: 0=s; 1=t; 2=n; 3=m; 4=r; 5=l; 6=sh, ch, or soft g, 7=k, hard c, or hard g; 8=f or v; and 9=p. To remember the date 1439, for example, the learner uses the associated consonant sounds, t, r, m and p, and will insert vowels to create a meaningful word or words. In this case, the word “tramp” can be used.

There are, however, at least two problems in improving memory by means of mnemonic instruction. The first problem is — as already stated — that it overlooks the sequential fashion of learning. Mnemonics instruction is, to a large extent, instruction in memory techniques, which should be taught only AFTER the skill of memory has been learned. It can be compared to a person being taught soccer tactics, such as the “wall pass,” while he has not yet adequately mastered the skill of passing the ball. As stated in ‘Knowabout Soccer’, “No matter how good your passing technique, if the quality of your passing is poor, your technique will not be effective.” The second problem is that by teaching memory crutches only, the result is, as stated by Scruggs and Mastropieri, “on more complex applications, generalization attempts [are] less successful.” If the SKILL of memory is taught, however, the learner can apply it in any situation.

STUDY TECHNIQUES:

There are three learning techniques that can be employed to make study more successful.

1. Association: This is probably the most important and most effective of all the learning techniques, of which mnemonics is probably the most commonly used association technique.

2. Thinking in pictures: One is able to remember much better what has been seen in the mind’s eye than what has been thought in abstract terms. Therefore, one should always consciously try to think in terms of pictures.

3. Reduce frequency of brain waves: The brain usually vibrates at 20 cycles per second or higher. Dr. Georgi Lozanov was probably the first who discovered that, if the frequency of the brain waves is reduced, more effective study becomes possible. He found that playing slow Baroque music could reduce the frequency of brain waves. José Silva was probably the first who discovered a method to reduce the frequency of brain waves at will.

STUDY METHODS:

Most learners have the bad habit of only studying the day before a test or exam. There are two serious disadvantages attached to this method of study:

1. There is never any regular practice of study skills.

2. It has been found that within 24 hours — on an average — one forgets up to 80% of what one has learned. If, however, the study material is reviewed after 24 hours, it takes 7 days before 80% is forgotten again, and if another review is done at this point, then it takes 30 days to forget 80% again.

Research has shown that, if the correct pattern or review of studied material is followed, memory consolidation is enhanced significantly, and the overall time spent in learning is slashed dramatically. The following pattern of initial study and subsequent review will certainly deliver excellent results:

1. Set up a timetable that is divided in study periods of 30 minutes each. On the first day on which this new timetable will be implemented, take the first study period to learn some study material thoroughly. It must be brief enough so that it can be absorbed in only about 15 minutes. Once the full study program is in operation, as you will soon realize when you read further, one only has about 15 minutes in each study period of 30 minutes in which to study and absorb new material. The rest of the time is spent on reviewing previously learned material. The piece of work must be summarized and thoroughly studied in these 30 minutes. Take a rest of 5 minutes at the end of the study period.

2. Review after 5 minutes. Take 3 minutes of the next study period to review the study material of the previous study period, before new material is again summarized and thoroughly studied.

3. Review after 24 hours. Take 3 minutes to review the material that was studied the previous day. Then take 3 minutes to review the work that was studied 5 minutes ago, before again studying and summarizing new material.

4. Review after 7 days. Take 3 minutes to review the work that was reviewed 7 days ago, before reviewing the work that was studied the day before, and then reviewing the work that was studied 5 minutes ago.

5. Review after 30 days. Take 3 minutes to review the work that was already reviewed 30 days ago, before reviewing the work of 7 days ago, then that of 24 hours ago, and then that of 5 minutes ago.

6. Review after 120 days. Take 3 minutes to review the work that was studied 120 days ago, then the work that was studied 30 days ago, before reviewing the work of 7 days ago, then that of 24 hours ago, and then that of 5 minutes ago.

Is God Just?

“For Christ also suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18).

Always in sorrow God’s love and justice are questioned. How could a good God be so cruel and so uncaring of those made in His image? Indeed, if He knew Adam and Eve would sin, why did He create them at all? I think in deep sorrow this becomes a crucial and valid question.

Perhaps we can take some comfort in Isaiah 57:1-2: “The righteous perishes, and no man takes it to heart; merciful men are taken away while no one considers that the righteous man is taken away from evil.” No one considers! How true. Jesus’ disciples were so bewildered when their lovely Companion and Friend died on the Cross. Dear God, they must have cried to heaven, Love nailed to a Cross? This Man they lived with, walked with and worked with for over three years was subjected to the cruelest of deaths. How could they know that out of this seeming failure would arise the Son of Man and Son of God in eternal glory; that humankind would be given God’s beauty for Jesus’ ashes of suffering; that mankind would be anointed with the oil of joy, God’s Holy Spirit; that the grieving world would be dressed with the garment of praise for a spirit of heaviness through this ultimate act of man’s inhumanity to Man? How can we know that out of our dear and dead children’s ashes will arise a good and goodness? Because our Father is just and His promises are true!

In Psalm 98:14 we are told not only of justice being the foundation of God’s throne, but of the symbolism of the twin angels of mercy and truth (one version reads loving-kindness and faithfulness). Psalm 85:10 tells us: “Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed.” What a lovely vision for questioning hearts! Psalm 25:10 assures us: “All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth” and Psalm 26:3 reassures us: “For Your loving-kindness is before my eyes.”

Wherever and whenever God goes, His justice, love and faithfulness accompany Him. It is reported that when Abraham Lincoln was shot in Ford’s Theater, James Garfield shouted above the panic-stricken crowd, “Fellow Citizens, `Justice and judgment are the habitation of His throne.’” Here is the moral basis for God’s Kingship. How then can we blame God for evil: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation” (Matthew 12:25). Remember, Friend, this is Jesus speaking! I believe with all my broken heart that one of Satan’s most successful ploys is convincing us that God is responsible for earth’s evils and sufferings. Satan must literally dance for joy when a person actually believes that the malignities and perversities of this life are “acts of God”! We are unjust who accuse God of being unjust. It is Satan who is the accuser of the brethren and who delights in our blaming God when calamity strikes. “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace” (1 Corinthians 14:33) and grief is not peace but a terrible spiritual anarchy.

I realize that in desolation our hearts are hardly open to the logic and logistics of this aberrant world in which we live and we seem to battle forces we feel too much beyond our control. When we want–indeed, need–to question why we have been thrown into the “bottom of the monstrous world,” as Milton so aptly termed it, we might consider that we are not our own (1 Corinthians 6:19), and neither are our beloved dead. We were bought with the fearsome price of the agony and death of the Man of Sorrows Himself. If we believe in Jesus and the Atonement then we know He literally bought us and our children, and “if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (Romans 14:8). God has equitable jurisdiction as Creator and Redeemer. “Behold, all souls are Mine,” God tells us in Ezekiel 18:4. This implies authority and ownership.

Calvin, whose puritanical pronouncements hardly belie a soft theology, recognized that God possessed “a paternal affection towards the whole human race which He created and formed.” We can thank God, even with breaking hearts, that He wills all to be saved. Indeed, I believe that one of the greatest promises in His Word is in John 12:32: “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.” This surely is His highest and noblest will, considering how humankind has ignored, denied and despised the One to whom they owe life itself.

It is possible only with God as our Guide to believe that sorrow does work toward a good, and whatever good does sift its way to the top of our muddy waters comes from God’s grace only. Someone has wisely observed that there is a faith which instead of moving mountains prevents mountains of evil from moving. Jeremy Taylor speaks great comfort to our hearts: “God, who in mercy and wisdom governs the world, would never have suffered so many sadnesses, and have sent them especially to the most virtuous and the wisest [people], but that he intends they should be the seminary of thought, the nursery of virtue, the exercise of wisdom, the trial of patience, the venturing for a crown, and the gate of glory.”

In our quest for justice we always ask why, for we will always lose loved ones and our cherished plans will sometimes fail. Emily Dickinson pens it well:

Love’s stricken “why”
Is all that love can speak —
Built of but just a syllable
The hugest hearts that break.

We ask why does the sun shine on the evil and the good, and the rain fall on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45)? Surely, if we have any sensibilities at all, so often it seems that justice and mercy are indeed on the scaffold and wrong on the throne of undeserved glory. In fact, wickedness shouts to be noticed and honored through every age. We need only note the idols and heroes the world worships.

The most agonized “why” ever on this grievous earth was the cry of dereliction from the Cross, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). There on that instrument of death Jesus moaned the why of all who feel God-forsaken and just forsaken; who see the darkness homing in relentlessly and inescapably. Why, my God? Why my son? Why Your Son? Why anyone’s beloved child? Why death at all? But questions become useless and, worse, a stone in the way of the Rock of Ages. Our Father asks us to remove the stone from the tomb of our sorrow and believe that He has the answers. We may not know the answers here on earth, but He does have them!

Walmart was the first business to require all its employees to wear nametags. (There’s a surprise!) Sam Walton created this initiative because he wanted his customers to “get to know the people they bought from.”

But the value of employee nametags spans far beyond getting to know people, it’s all about being approachable. So whether you work in retail, hospitality, food service or sales, to wear a nametag is to be on stage. To be on stage is to be ready to serve your customers. And to be ready to serve your customers is to do your job effectively.

Here are several ways nametags will help your employees maintain an accessible, comfortable business environment.

I have a bad habit of putting too much hot sauce on, well…everything. Recently, after I wolfed down a Tobasco covered bite of my cheeseburger, I realized that I desperately needed a refill of ice water to regain feeling in my lips. My server walked right by, but unfortunately I failed to get his attention because I didn’t know his name. Why? You guessed it: he wasn’t wearing a nametag! No water for me! Fortunately I chugged down my date’s ice tea.

Tip # 1: A nametag makes it easier for customers to gain the attention of an employee from whom they need service. Without it, the customers will either find someone else to help them, or won’t get what they need.

Imagine you walk into a store. You browse the aisles for a few minutes and decide that you’d like to speak with a sales associate. You look around, see a few people, but nobody appears to be an employee. After wrongfully asking and embarrassing a few strangers who don’t actually work there, you get frustrated and leave the store. As you walk out the door, you complain, “Darn it! Doesn’t anybody work here?!

Tip # 2: The most important rule in retail is to “make a friend in thirty seconds.” The quickest and surest way to do this is to inform and remind customers of your employees’ names. This promotes self-disclosure and creates comfort in the conversation. And when you put your customers at ease, the sales process will be more personable.

Synergy
Have you ever started a new job and didn’t know everyone’s name until the third month? Or what about the organization for whom you’ve contributed ten years and still don’t know the name of that curly haired girl from the second floor? Let’s face it: people are terrible with names. It’s the single context of human memory most apt to be forgotten.

Tip # 3: Especially for organizations with hundreds of employees, nametags for your teammates will only ease their pain and contribute to a synergized workplace.

Ambassadors
Another invaluable benefit of nametags is that they will transform your employees into ambassadors. It will make them walk their talk. Ask people who work in real estate, they wear nametags every day! Some agents even wear two nametags: one on their shirt and another magnetized to the side of their car! Tip #4: A nametag immediately identifies an employee as an ambassador of the company. As such, it keeps her accountable for her behavior while she wears it and promotes good word of mouth for the business.

Your nametag is just like your company’s billboard. Except it’s free and people will actually look at it for more than four seconds. So, when customers or clients work with your employees, they will be exposed to your logo, colors and brand identity. As a result your nametag turns into an effective medium for free advertising.

Tip #5: A well designed nametag will constantly keep your company’s brand, logo and corporate culture in the minds of your customers and prospects. Because it’s not who you know, it’s who knows you.

Fun
Nametags are fun. Kids like them. Adults like them. They promote friendliness in the workplace and foster a sense of community. And people want to spend their money in places, on items and with people that are welcoming and approachable. Next time you walk into Borders, take a closer look at one of the employees’ nametags. Often times their lanyards will have stickers or pictures of their favorite books on them.

Tip #6: Employees who wear fun, memorable nametags will also show the customers that their business is fun and memorable.

    Working with Children (Fourth through Sixth Grade) While Depressed

    Children in this age group have their advantages and their disadvantages when it comes to depressed people working with them. Like their younger counterparts, they sometimes have trouble with concepts that might seem easy. They will get it, however, and you should try not to stress it. Getting frustrated with them does not help matters at all, and can just make it harder for them to learn. At this age, children also start to test their independence. They start to view school as a chore, instead of something to be enjoyed and will demonstrate glee when the day is over. As a teacher, that can sometimes be hard to watch. Especially when you put thought into the day, planning it so they will have fun, you can get very upset at the idea that they are happy that the day is over. Whether they mean it or not, they can throw you lower into depression.

    At this age, they can do the same with their behavior. They are reaching an age where they want to start testing boundaries. They will fall in line pretty quickly, but they might still test the boundaries in a way that will frustrate you. Their misbehavior, if you have problems with it over time, can lead to extreme frustration and possibly even tears.

    To avoid this, there are two things to do. The first, like with younger children, is to take pride in their accomplishments with them. When they are having trouble, but finally do get it, then you should share in the joy with them. Be proud for the help that you have given them. You also need to learn not to take their disrespect, when it happens, personally. They are trying to deal with many new things and are trying to find new boundaries. By dealing with them on that level, you can get them to accept your authority and behave for you, and not end up regretting that you came in to work that day.
