The basics in singing lessons are a must for beginners. When you learn how to sing you will become more confident in your ability. Professional singers had begun their training there. Knowing the basics in singing makes the singer well equipped to progress to the next level. Others who had jump too fast in singing lessons and skipped the basics usually find their selves in predicaments. Learning the basics in singing is very important for a beginner. Look for a voice coach, online singing lessons or downloadable software, a workshop or even a crash course that will suit your time and budget. Get yourself enrolled in a private music school for group lessons or if you are not comfortable with your voice yet, enroll for private lessons. Pick a voice coach that you are at ease with and knowledgeable. It is very important that you are comfortable with the teacher so that you can be relaxed in every lesson. Crash course and workshops are much cheaper though. While online lessons can be more practical if time is limited.
It is important that on the first day of training, you are using your natural voice and let the teacher knows your voice range and type for the teacher will make notes for a planned lessons that is necessary for your voice’ improvements. Do not imitate others. It is best to stick to what you had. Different people have different type of voice. That is why, a certain song may be suitable for your type of voice, and there are certain songs that aren’t meant for you.
Breathing is very important in singing. Proper control of your voice can make a big difference, especially if you are hitting on a high note. It is also best if you learn how to breathe from your diaphragm. Professional singers are doing breathing exercises that helps them sing their best. You can always practice this even when you are at work, or school or even doing chores around the house. 1 hour a day or even less should do the trick. Refrain from drinking cold beverages and smoking; it will only strain your voice. Also, avoid late night parties or the sort and enough sleep is always an advantage. Great voice should be well taken care of. Ginger tea is best for sore throat with a little mint added unto it.
Poise, another essential part in singing, gives the singer more confidence onstage. Even if you sing beautifully, but without poise and attitude, the singer will look boring and uninteresting for the audience. Emotions that comes within when singing gives more zing to the performance. An energetic and bubbly singer can affect people in a positive way, making them dance or sing with the singer.
Paloma Faith has declared that elusive musician Tom Waits is “what he says on the tin”. The latest Paloma Faith lyrics have caused her fans to write in demanding that they appear on her website.
Downtown Train singer Tom is known for his enigmatic personality and Paloma, who acts alongside him in The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus, said this was no act.
“He is what he says on the tin, he is what he says he is - Tom Waits is Tom Waits,” she said.
She added that playing the girlfriend of Tom’s devil character Mr Nick was a dream come true.
She said: “Tom Waits has inspired me so much and being Tom’s w***e in this film was one of my great ambitions fulfilled. An inspiration.”
She said no musical collaboration between the two quirky artists were on the cards but added: “If it was, I hope it would sounds more like him than me!”
Paloma Faith could have spun from the imagination of novelist Angela Carter. She is theatricality incarnate: an actor, dancer, burlesque performer and former magician’s assistant whose natural habitat is the dressing-up box. At least, that’s what her CV suggests - there’s no evidence of this on her debut album. What its 10 posturing, glittering songs signify is a thoroughly conventional soul, someone for whom taking a risk means visiting the vintage section of Top Shop. Amid the blizzard of catchy choruses, occasional flashes of eccentricity - the rinky-dink opening rhythm of Upside Down, the jewellery-box piano melody of Broken Doll - hint at the performer Faith purports to be. But her protestations of otherness ring hollow when her music is so specious and bland. Maddy Costa
A little mystery is always good. At a festival such as Lollapalooza, where artists can be separated into genres such as rock, folk, electronic or experimental, having something mildly exotic and ambiguous is a plus. Bat For Lashes, a.k.a Natasha Khan, supplied a needed dose of eclecticism at the vitaminwater stage at Lollapalooza.
Born in Brighton, England and having spent parts of her childhood in Pakistan, she went on to graduate in Music and Visual Arts. For many of her projects at the university, she created exhibits that combined these two elements.
On stage, she does the same, dressing up in costumes such as Native American headdresses and painting her cheekbones in various colors. When combined with a buttery, deep voice that can bring on a storm and the ability to juggle roles on multiple instruments, talent and determination are seen in every song and gesture.
Still, Khan keeps things grounded, always thanking the audience for singing along: “I’m so glad you know these songs. That’s so good.” A wannabe pop princess she is not; a true musician looking to spice up the indie world she is.
The crowd gathered to see her performance was rather large, indicative of her growing fanbase. Coming out in spandex and her trademark face paint, she started off with “Glass”, from her latest album, Two Suns. This dark ballad was the perfect opener; the kind that makes listeners wish it were played first at a live show. Khan exercised her vocal chords to mesmerizing effect, hitting smoky notes along a landscape of intriguing lyrics.
Khan then played an accordion-like instrument on “Trophy”, driving the idea home: “Shoot them down, set them free!” Her voice echoed on the ghostly “What’s A Girl To Do?” After fans close to the stage held up a sign reading, “Please Be Our Mother”, Khan winked in their general direction, then moved into “Prescilla”. This is one of the popiest numbers is Bat For Lashes’ catalogue, but she added a unique flavor to it with a spare solo on something sounding like a harpsichord but resembling a far-off Asian instrument.
“Daniel”, an instant crowd-pleaser and somewhat obvious closer, capped off the set, featuring Mid-eastern sound loops and a singing style that could be characterized as last-breath desperation. An artist grateful for fans and a chance to strut her stuff, Khan bowed generously after the jaw-dropping audible feast.
Big names like Snoop dog and Tool usher in the largest audiences at these fests, but often the more obscure acts are the ones with true gusto for their craft. Hopefully future tours will bring Natasha Kahn closer to a top-billed spot. She deserves it.

People have been debating the pros and cons of the memory technique used in taking piano learning lessons. Some of the champions of this technique line up a long list of benefits those can be accrued from this technique. Their major claim for the suitability of this technique lies in the perception that the player doesn’t need a book to turn to for taking the lessons or playing the piano. Once can simply memorize and start playing the instrument. Another advantage cited by these people is that the player doesn’t need to divert his attention to book - one can concentrate solely on the fingers. This focused attention leads to better performance. Moreover, one need not spend time on turning the pages of the book. Add to that the benefit of ability of playing piano anywhere, even if the book is not available. The benefits can be stretched to an extent where the player can play the piano in dark and that it can also be done by closing eyes.
Those against the use of this technique for piano learning lessons assert that this technique is difficult for some people. People with limited memory retention are at a disadvantage to use this technique. Even if a student is good at it, he may forget some parts of the lessons while performing, and this may have detrimental effect on his overall capabilities of taking piano lessons and play at a pro level.
While you are taking piano lessons, it is important to know what to be memorized. In other words, which pieces must be memorized so that the performance is not at risk. One must be very good listener in order to have larger chunk of piece being memorized with ease. Further, you must try to memorize something which you have started practicing. It shouldn’t be other way around - you first memorize and then memorize the same.
You or your tutor must be able to analyze the piece by splitting it into parts clearly identifying the rhythmic, melodic and harmonic units separately. This analysis must mandatorily precede memorizing. Experts also offer this piece of advice for those taking piano lessons - technique of verbal mediation. This technique employs simple procedure - student should speak out the lessons and practice it simultaneously. Memorizing process can be reinforced with the help of visual memory.
