The Bankroll Difference between a pro and a Amateur
Thursday 18 February 2010 @ 10:54 am

It should not come as a surprise to anyone that a professional online poker player is expected to have quite a large bankroll. Since online poker is their sole livelihood, they need to be able to support all of the expenses of their life based on the turn of the cards. A habitual amateur should also have a sizable bankroll in theory. Depending on the stakes that the like to play, this sizable bankroll can vary anywhere from a few hundreds to a few thousands. When we get down to comparing the bankrolls of the professional player and the amateur the most obvious difference is the size. To really understand the differences, however, you need to look at the reasons why the bankrolls vary. When you play poker online as an amateur, you have a day job to provide the steady income you need to keep up the necessities of life. Food, clothing, and rent are all covered by your nine to five. This safety net is not in place when you are a professional poker player. You need to fund it all on your own. Basically, the bankroll that you have should automatically exclude the cost of living. This means that you actually earn a percentage of money that you are not allowed to put back into the game. This turnover of funds is the true difference between the amateur and professional bankroll.

Chopping Tournaments
Friday 5 February 2010 @ 10:32 am

The main goal for any regular tournament online poker player is not just to go deep in the field, but to win. There are few feelings available to a poker player that can match that of being the last man standing out of a field of many others, finally having proven himself the victor over all.

In many situations, however, and especially in lower priced buy in online poker tournaments, once the number of remaining players gets down to a certain level, people will start talking about chopping the prize pool among the remaining. If there is $5000 available to the winners in a field of 100, and the tournament dictates that the top 10 will be paid, often players might begin trying to negotiate a chop as early as 20 remaining.

Usually this will be passed on by the group, as if it is not unanimous the game must go on, but the negotiation can also continue once the play gets into the money. The top three might want to agree to split the cash prizes of the three between them equally rather than having tiers. This can be valuable if the blinds are so high that skill is less a factor than luck. But there is nothing wrong with wanting to go on and play it out.

Wedding Musicians Get Everyone Dancing
Saturday 2 January 2010 @ 11:15 am

Weddings are a time for festivity and nothing sets the mood better than the right music. Although the ceremony itself often reflects the romance of the classical era, when it comes to the party afterward people want to rock it out, making it a memorable event that brings out the laughter, love, and joyfulness everyone is feeling. Therefore, the selection of wedding music or, better yet, wedding instrumentalists can become an important choice.

You’ve got a lot of options, and canned music could work okay, but by the time someone agrees to run it and the music is collected the result is less than desirable. DJs are more common and they provide the equipment and music picks preferred, but can be pricey with less than outstanding outcomes in some cases. For who really want something special, nothing beats the sound of a live dance band that can react and respond at once to the wants of party-goers and cost is often equal to that of a good DJ. The question then becomes what kind of band or instrumentalists to hire that will leave guests in awe and remembering the event for some time to come.

For those who really want to “kick it up a notch” and are planning a Florida wedding, there are many choices, but one new option is employing a steel drum band like Reel Ting. For those unacquainted with this type of music, it brings the sounds of the Caribbean to life with a Reggae sound that delivers the music of the islands into any celebration space and much more. And, with its resonance, feet can’t quit moving.

Many wedding players, like Reel Ting, are not limited to when it comes to music. Classic music played on steel drums provides a twist on the original composition that is not only unusual, but produces pretty, tuneful music that is especially unique. When the party kicks into high gear, however, they are more than prepared to enliven the party with a beat that will ensure party-goers never want to stop. With the options provided by steel drum bands, feeling like one is on a tropical island can be experienced regardless of where the event is held.

When employing any wedding band it’s important that sufficient experience and references are offered and that they are checked well. After all, a couple has only one chance in their life-time to do it well so ensuring that the greatest band is on the job for the event will save much worry. For instance, a steel drum band like Real Ting with ten years of experience and many letters of testimonial can reassure engaged couples that their event will be a unforgetable experience.

The right wedding musicians should bring flair, flamboyance, talent, and professionalism to any event. Florida is lucky in that it has many alternatives for live music, but perhaps it is luckiest for the talented steel drum bands, like Reel Ting, that are based there. For any couple planning to marry, whether residents Florida or those traveling in for a destination wedding, it should be a first choice to make the occasion unforgettable and matchless.

Will Poker Television Make You a Better Player?
Friday 20 November 2009 @ 10:43 am

Now that Texas Holdem is all the range the curious poker player has a large selection of televised poker shows that they can watch. There are specific channels dedicated to online poker, as well as high budget coverage of major tournaments. Even when you are just flipping channels, chances are that you will land on some form of televised poker show. Some people feel that watching these programs will make them into a better poker player. The theory is that they can learn from the best by imitating the moves they see on the television in real life play.

There are definite strong points to this strategy, but the professionals play in a caliber that is not often encountered in your average casino. Unless you are planning on playing professionally, many of the things you see on television are simply not applicable. What you should take away from televised poker spirit are more broad concepts. For example, you can learn how to hold a poker face under pressure from watching televised poker or how to bluff effectively. If you keep an open mind instead of narrowing in on the individual acts in the game, you can learn to be a more effective poker player simply by watching televised poker shows. Keep this in mind when you play poker online.

Slow Play Payday
Tuesday 11 August 2009 @ 4:15 pm

The slow pokerplay tactic can win big pots, but it can also erode your poker chip stack. It requires careful examination of the board and other players’ tells. When playing poker online, it’s hard to pick up any tells, which is why it is important to identify loose/tight and passive/aggressive betting patterns when playing online.

Say the flop gives you two pair, or high pair with a good kicker. The cards on board are neither connected nor suited for a possible straight or flushes. This is where the slow play can pay off. The board is non-threatening, and probably the best possible hand is trips or two pair, which you are holding.

In early position, you can check to entice a poker bet behind you. In late position, you can call a bet. And even though your two pair can turn into a full house on the turn or river, your hand is not the definite nuts. It’s good, but not the best possible. Slow playing can always expose you to the risk of a bad beat - another player on a draw hits trips or a higher pair on the turn or river. Tips on when to slow play: * You’ve got the absolute nuts - the best possible hand that can made with the board. You’ve flopped quads or a full house. Slow play so you don’t scare off other players. * You don’t want a loose aggressive player behind you to re-raise your bet and put you off a good hand that could get better. The slow play may let you see the turn or river cards for fewer chips or for free. * The flop gives you the probable nuts, like the best flush. Slow play the flop with a check, and make a minimum bet at the turn. * To maximize the pot when you’ve got a good hand, like two pair, that will probably win. Make or call minimum bets to keep other players invested. But be prepared for the possibility folding to a bad beat. * Early slow play may give you the opportunity to check-raise later to maximize your hand when you know it’s the winner. Do not slow play when the flop gives you a good, but not best possible hand, like a set. Bet it and make it expensive for others to draw. Remember, a small profit is always better than a loss. Don’t risk the bad beat by slowing playing a made hand that is vulnerable to the turn or river making a straight or flush.
